Emerald Coast Brings Solar Energy to Homes

Dubbed by CNN Travel as the “Eco-darling of Central America”. The Emerald Coast is a 30-mile stretch of unspoiled Pacific coastline and dry tropical forest.

Originally an insider secret only the most die-hard surfers. Famous for its 300 plus days a year of off-shore winds and world-class surf breaks.

It is also the choice location of Rancho Santana, one of the largest and most prestigious resorts in the country. Set in a vast 2,700-acre coastal forest with 2 miles of shoreline, Rancho Santana has helped in the growing eco-tourism.

Many international visitors, mostly from the United States, now own property in the resort. Also, the new beachfront residences nearly sold out within months.

However, from the time Nick and Kathy first began developing property in the region, they realized there was an obvious – and often overlooked – problem: for the local residents, a power source was either not available, or not reliable.

The terrain is rugged, undeveloped, and in many areas, power lines had simply not been put up. Most likely, it will not change in the near future.

What this meant is that, in one of the most beautiful regions in the world, and what Nick and Kathy hoped to call home someday, many residents relied on coal fire. Coal fire is not only an inefficient source of power, but one that leaves thick black smoke in the air, polluting the area that Nick and Kathy love so dearly, and exposing locals and tourists alike to unhealthy air contamination.

Mango Time Also Helps

For Nick and Kathy, who also own Blue Sky Solar and Roofing, a company whose mission is to do their part to reduce their carbon footprint, improve energy efficiency, and leave the world a better place, this only meant one thing.

They needed to bring solar energy to the Emerald Coast. As a 1% For The PlanetMember – who dedicates 1 % of total profits to environmental causes – Blue Sky Solar and Roofing is now working another like-minded company to bring solar energy to the residents – at no cost to them – simply because it is the right thing to do.

The final goal? To provide solar energy to every resident of the Emerald Coast. Follow our progress here as we post updates.
